When Pfizer’s brain child entered the living rooms of millions across the globe, just over a decade ago,  it was the first of its kind, opening a wondrous door to a realm previously guarded. Viagra was ‘the wonder pill’ that took the markets by storm, selling at a rate of 9 pills per second, and spreading stories even faster.

Ever since it was introduced, Viagra has been associated with ‘great sex’. As stories about the drug spread, everyone from teenagers to old men, and even women, have wanted to experience the ecstatic wonders of the blue pill. Of course, in reality, Viagra is simply an oral medication, intended to help men with erectile disorders achieve an erection, and is devoid of any ability to increase the quality of sex.

Another story that spread widely about Viagra, was that it causes blindness. Though it causes a temporary blurring of vision, Viagra is an absolutely safe prescription drug. Viagra increases the blood flow to the penis, by inhibiting the production of an enzyme called PDE5 (which is specific for the penis) and sometimes temporarily blocks the PDE6 enzymes, which are specific for the eyes, causing temporary reduction in vision.
